Help for Humanity

-

Back when the earthquake hit Haiti, and due to all the subsequent global tragedies that followed that sad situation, I had the link to this page repeat-tweeting for over a year. One day, I stopped it. Bad idea. Millions of people are still in need of help all over the world. That’s why I decided to get it going on repeat tweet again. A little help from a lot of us will go a long way in helping mitigate some of the suffering going on in our human family. Won’t you consider helping?

Natural and man-made disasters are affecting the human family from one end of the globe to the other, even in well-developed nations like the United States. It’s time we think about broadening our reach.

If you’re not in a position to donate your time to help those in need, please think strongly about donating your money and things like non-perishable foodstuffs, clothes, shoes, blankets and even water.

There are so many organizations to consider. Please do your research and find a credible organization with which to volunteer or give.

An excellent place to start is with Charity Navigator. Their tagline is “Your Guide to Intelligent Giving.” Charity Navigator evaluates organizations that collect donations for humanitarian purposes. Start by checking out their Top Ten Lists:

My Question of the Day for 25 June 2010 – UPDATED

My Question of the Day: There are 24, whole hours in one day, and it seems we hardly ever have enough time for all the things we’d like to accomplish. With that in mind, what is ONE (and only one) thing for which you’d like to have more time in your day?

My 2 Cents: The one thing for which I’d like to have more time in the day is touching base with family and friends.

Sitting on the phone for hours on end is just not a reality in my life right now, but I wish I had more time to do that, so I could keep in touch with the people.

I chat with people online, and I text with folks on my cell phone, but talking to them—hearing their voices and them hearing mine—is a “few and far between” form of communication for me.

My Question of the Day for 14 September 2009 – RESULTS

-

The Question: What have you done (plan to do) differently with your child(ren) than your parent(s) did with you??

My 2 Cents: I’m not  a parent, but I hope to be one day. There’s only one major thing I plan to do differently with my children than my parents did with my older sister, me and my younger brother. I will not force my children to eat things they don’t like. The rule will be that they have to try it once. If after they try it once, they decide they don’t like something, they don’t have to eat it again.

I had a strong dislike for squash, and I just simply didn’t like the slimy look of the stuff inside of okra, but my parents tried to force me to sit at the table and eat both even though I didn’t like them. My Daddy used to say, “OK, you have two choices. You can eat the squash/okra, or you can get a spanking and eat the squash/okra. You decide.” That didn’t seem like a real decision to me. I won’t do that to my children.

By the by, when it came to the squash, I’d choke it down more often than not. Sometimes my Daddy would let me off the hook. When it came to the okra, I took the spanking or got let off the hook. I’ve never had okra, and I don’t plan on eating it unless it is the last thing on God’s green earth to eat. Even then, I’m going to be hesitant.
