My Question of the Day for 22 January 2010 – RESULTS

-

The Question: On average, how much sleep do you get nightly, and do you think it’s enough?

My 2 Cents: I get laughed at because I try to get in bed by 9:30pm each night.

Since I get up at 4:30am each weekday, I think my bedtime is reasonable. I attempt to get seven hours of sleep each night. I can usually manage this, but sometimes I fall short; very short. When I miss my full seven hours of sleep, I can feel it the next day. Ugh.

Many of us don’t realize the importance of an adequate amount of sleep. Our bodies use our sleeping hours to regenerate much of what we break down during our waking hours. When we compromise on our sleep, we’re compromising on our health. Sleep deprivation can cause us to be overweight, more stressed, less productive and much more. Check out an article I found on WebMD that correlates the desire to snack with not getting enough sleep.

Over the last few years, I’ve learned to treat sleep as a rule not an exception. There’s nothing that important going on in my life that I should neglect my well-being, especially when you consider that it is our well-being that allows us to pursue those things which we believe are important.
