My Question of the Day for 19 February 2010 – UPDATED

-

My Question of the Day: If you could be the boss at your job for one day, and you were able to make a change that couldn’t be reversed even after you went back to your regular position, what change would you make in your workplace?

My 2 Cents: For all employees, I’d create a super flex plan that would allow them to work fewer days and more hours per day, as long as their time totals 40 hours by the end of the week.

If an employee wanted to work his/her 40 hours in three days, that would be fine, as long as his/her work is completed and it doesn’t conflict with the schedules of clients outside our business.

In this area (DC-MD-VA), that would help get a few more cars off the road. It would also give employees more hours off for personal appointments, family time, rest and relaxation.

My Question of the Day for 28 January 2010 – RESULTS

-

The Question: You show up for work like you normally do everyday, and there’s a notice on your desk that there will be an emergency meeting in the large conference room/breakroom that everyone must attend at 3p. At this meeting, you learn that the entire company is moving overseas.

When management tells you to which country the company is moving, you remember being fascinated about this country when you learned about it in school. You said to yourself back then that you might like to visit this country one day and see all the wonderful things you learned about in class.

There’s one more thing on the president’s agenda before the meeting is adjourned. Every current employee is given the option to relocate (with their family, if they have one) overseas with the company, at your own expense and at a lower salary (because of the nature of the economy in the other country), but you’ll still have a job and you won’t lose your benefits package, plus the company will fly you (and your family, if you have one) back to your home country two times a year at the company’s expense.

What do you do?

My 2 Cents: As a single person, with no husband and children, I’d leave without hesitation. If I were a wife and/or mother, I’d discuss it with my family, and then choose to do what was best for all parties involved.
