My Question of the Day for 25 October 2011
My Question of the Day: When Kirkland cleans the house, he’d prefer if his four-year-old son, Thad, weren’t so willing to help. What Kirkland can get done in 15 minutes takes almost twice as long when he has to show and explain to Thad how to do the same task, too. Do you think Kirkland should let Thad help or find something else to do to occupy his son’s time so he can get finished faster?

I agree with them.
I mean, you can’t say no because kids pick up on that, but if you give them something they can do, then they feel useful.

LikeDislikeHe should definitely let him help. It’s never too early to learn good habits. Maybe Kirkland can find tasks that are easier for Thad to accomplish, or less in the way so it doesn’t take forever.

LikeDislikeI’ve run into this issue numerous times. Definitley let him help, but give him a task that he can “own” and that won’t interfere with other tasks that you’re getting done. For instance, I used to let my daughters wipe the walls/refrigerators down or dust the floors once the room was cleaned if I needed them to teh side. If they wanted to tag along, I could designte them the “spray girl” and they would simply spray areas that I’m cleaning down. It keeps everyone happy and less frustrated.
