My Question of the Day for 15 September 2011
My Question of the Day: Debbie was too busy to break for lunch. She didn’t ask anyone to get lunch for her, but her coworker, Janice, brought Debbie some food back from the local restaurant when she went out. Debbie thought the gesture was so thoughtful, and she thanked Janice over and over for thinking of her. A few days later, Debbie received an email from Janice that said, “I was wondering when you plan to pay me back for the lunch I bought for you the other day. Thanks.” How should Debbie respond to the email?

*Sigh* Debbie should just give Janice the amount she would have normally spent on lunch and tell her that while the gesture was appreciated, in the future Janice should not make unauthorized purchases for her if she expected to be reimbursed.

LikeDislikeJulius hit it right on the head. Janice should have asked Debbie if she wanted lunch and the terms could have been established then. Janice didn’t know what Debbie’s situation was. She might have been skipping lunch because she was short on cash that week.

LikeDislikeI like julius’ answer. In all reality the coworker is a dumb jerk. Debbie didn’t ask her to do nothing for her she just did it on her own. And if she wanted payment she should have said something when she gave her the food. Two days later is ridiculous.

LikeDislikeBuy her lunch as soon as possible and never accept anything from her again. Make sure she treats her good from now on but stay away!
