My Question of the Day: A vacation getaway is almost always a pleasurable experience. Most of us eat, sleep and sight-see on our own schedule without worrying about work. Many times we go on vacation and leave family members and friends behind. With that in mind, when you go on vacation, do you feel obligated to bring home souvenirs to the folks who didn’t get to go with you?

My 2 Cents: I don’t feel obligated to come home with souvenirs when I go on vacation. My vacation is for me, not to be concerned with what others want.

The last vacation I went on in 2008, my entire family and my best friend were on the vacation with me, so I didn’t have to even think about dealing with souvenirs.

My Question of the Day: There are just some purchases that are private and you’d rather not have anyone else see you make them. With that in mind, and imagining that the person standing in line behind you is someone you either work with or attend religious services with, would you be more embarrassed to buy bladder protection items, like Depends or Poise, or would you be more embarrassed about buying sex aids, like condoms or lubricant?

My 2 Cents: I’m not embarrassed about any of my purchases. I buy what I want or need, regardless of who’s standing there.

The other person may be embarrassed for me, but that’s their issue, not mine.

If we’re both minding our own business, this isn’t even an issue, anyway.

My Question of the Day: We live in a highly-sexualized society these days. With that in mind, would you say that a man who is the father of a daughter or daughters is less-likely to exploit/objectify women?

My 2 Cents: I’d have to say “no” to this.

It’s true that we live in a highly-sexualized society, but people are able to rationalize all kinds of things in order to indulge themselves.

Once a person rationalizes that it’s OK, because it’s not his mother, sister, wife or daughter, then he compartmentalizes the ones he loves from the ones he objectifies.

There’s a disconnect between the two “worlds,” so he has no problem exploiting/objectifying whomever.

The “worlds” collide when it actually is his mother, sister, wife or daughter, but even that can be rationalized and compartmentalized once the issue has to be confronted.

My Question of the Day: The way we acquire our music has changed so much over the years. In this world of music-on-demand and single-track downloads, do you still buy CDs?

My 2 Cents: I can’t remember the last time I purchased a CD. I’ve purchased tracks online, but I haven’t purchased a physical CD in many years. I can’t say that I plan to any time soon either. I like being able to get the individual songs I like without having to suffer through tracks I’m not interested in hearing.

My Question of the Day for 19 August 2010 – UPDATED

Listen to the question here:

My Question of the Day: The cost of eating out can add up. With that in mind, you bring your lunch to work several days out of the week. You clearly mark your container and put it in the office refrigerator. This particular day you finish up a few things on your desk and realize it’s time for your lunch break. You go to the office refrigerator, and you discover that someone has taken your food, container and all. What do you do?

My 2 Cents: I’d actually do a sweep of the office to see if I can find my container in anyone’s office. If I find the culprit, we’d have a little chat to discern why s/he took my food. I would make it very clear that if it happens again, I’ll be reporting him/her for theft. If I can’t find out who’s done it, I will definitely report the theft, find an alternative for lunch and most likely not put my food in the office refrigerator thereafter.

Inconsiderate people truly annoy me,  but I’d deal with it and move on. I won’t let it ruin my day or my professionalism. At the end of the day, in the grand scheme of things, there are more important things with which to be concerned.
