My Question of the Day: You have two children, and they have two different personalities. One child, we’ll call him/her Sydney, does what you ask him/her to do when you ask it to be done and without delay. The other child, we’ll call him/her Shelby, waits until the last minute and/or right before your last straw to do what you ask him/her to do and/or to get things done.

One Saturday, you leave your two children home with a list of things for each child to accomplish during the day, and when you come home you see that both children have done everything they were supposed to do. Both children ask if they can go out with friends, and you tell them they can. However, you notice that Sydney isn’t happy about your decision. When you ask him/her what’s wrong, he/she explains to you that Shelby waited until about 30 minutes before you came home to do everything on the list while he/she (Sydney) did his/her part of the list immediately after you assigned the tasks. Sydney doesn’t think it’s fair that Shelby should get the same reward?

What do you think?

My 2 Cents: I can understand Sydney’s frustration with Shelby, but mom/dad didn’t give any directive about how much time had to be devoted to accomplishing the tasks.

Both children should get the same reward. Apologies, Sydney.

My Question of the Day: It’s bad enough to be caged like an animal when you’re correctly convicted of a crime, but imagine spending the better part of your life imprisoned for a crime you didn’t commit. New advances with DNA are causing wrongfully-convicted individuals to be released from prison after serving 20, 30, even 40 years behind bars. With all that in mind, once a person has been found innocent and released from prison, how should he/she be compensated because of his/her wrongful imprisonment?

My 2 Cents: Time can never be replaced. When it’s gone, it’s gone.

No amount of money can replace stolen time, but there should be an effort to try to compensate wrongly-imprisoned individuals.

Along with monetary compensation, there should be a series of workshops and/or classes to help these individuals acclimate to modern-day society.

Black Like Me…Maybe

-

The Harder Question: BlackWeb 2.0 released a list of The 100 Most Powerful Black Women on Twitter, and several of the comments on the post and on social media sites, like Twitter and FriendFeed, were from people who were upset about some of the women who were identified as “black.” This is interesting.

In your opinion, what and/or who decides/defines who’s “black” and who isn’t?

My Question of the Day: Many of us have several usernames for many of the sites we frequent on the web. With that in mind, even if it usually happens to be your given name, what do you think the usernames that you choose say about you, if anything?

My 2 Cents: I’ve always used some variation of my name, even my line name from when I pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. I’ve always liked my name and identified with 100%. There are two reasons for this. One, my Daddy names me. Two, my first and middle names together mean “faithful, highest queen.”

My usernames say that I’m proud of what I’m called.

My Question of the Day: Politics is rife with corruption, even if there are many politicians who are on the up-and-up. Imagine (and it shouldn’t be that far of a stretch) that a politician in your city/state is pushed out of office for abusing his/her position by overspending on professional and personal things. The politician is indicted, tried, put on several years probation and made to make financial restitution to the city/state.

One day you’re surfing the web, and you come across a story about this particular politician who has created a website to apologize for his/her behavior while in office, and there is a page asking visitors to donate money to help this politician pay back the money he/she is being ordered by the courts to pay?

Would you donate?

My 2 Cents: Uh… NO!

I actually got this question from seeing a website by Kwame Kilpatrick, ex-mayor of Detriot who was indicted for fraud and tax evasion, asking for donations.

The site isn’t there anymore, but it’s still listed on Wikipedia. I have no idea when it came down, but it’s down.
