My Question of the Day: When you’re at work, and lunchtime comes around, do you try to make it a habit to get away from the job and have your lunch, or do you just get your food and keep working at your desk while you eat?
My 2 Cents: Most of the time I eat at my desk, if I have lunch at all. Sometimes I just have to get away from the office, or I’ll let everyone pull me in million directions because sometimes lunch is the only time others can make their requests. When I’m teaching, I’m off limits, and lunch is when the floodgates seem to open and everyone wants to call, email or stop in my office. Ugh. I’m not complaining. I understand why they do it, but if I want to have peace during lunch I have to leave the office.

It depends. If I have enough time to leave the office, I leave. Most of the time when I work for someone else I only get a 30 minute lunch break so I barely have time to eat let alone wait in line somewhere to get lunch. When I work for myself, I take as much time as I need to get my breaks.
I take a break to eat. Life is too short to not enjoy a bite of lunch in peace. Granted there are some days when I’m too busy to even eat, but I try to make a concerted effort to sit down and eat lunch.
Most of the time I get something and come back to my desk. Like your other posters, I’d prefer to get away and have the mental break but many times my volume of work and concentration won’t let me. Unfortunately, most management at my job could care less about a mental break!
I would NEVER eat lunch at my desk! These ppl give me an hr to be away from my desk to eat, chill, read a book or whatever…Why would I not take advantage of that time? I think ppl who work through their appointed lunch time are seriously way to much of overacheivers! LOL But that’s just me. I work for lunch and 20min breaks! Haha
Leave work. It’s the way to get completely away to have your own thoughts. It keeps you refreshed and mindful you have a life beyond the 9-5. Further, it’s a great time to get some writing in.
I have to get away. The people at my job have no respect for lunch hours, they will interrupt you for various reasons. Leaving the area for lunch provides me with a small moment of peace and helps me mentally prepare for the second half of my day.
On busy days I’ll sit at my desk at eat thru lunch. However I make every effort to get my butt up and OUT of that office… I need a break from the craziness of the office environment!!
(-note – with being laid off, I’d welcome ANY job, sitting at any desk eating thru lunch! lol)
I tend to just work through lunch….typically not even bothering to get food, just work. At least that’s what I did most of the time when I worked for someone else. Now, working for myself, it’s not much different except that I can be at home & get what I’d like for lunch, if I’d like lunch.
Fun question…..thanks for asking!
