What keeps you posting questions everyday?
LikeDislikeThanks for your question.
I post questions each weekday because I made a commitment to myself and those who enjoy this blog to be diligent in keeping it going. Some days it’s harder than others to make it happen, but I make it happen because there’s nothing worse than inconsistency when it comes to a blog like this.
The other thing that keeps me posting questions is that I really enjoy seeing all the points of view, opinions and perspectives. There have been many times that I’ve asked a question, assumed I knew how everyone would respond, and been surprised to see how differently people see the same thing. It’s truly an eye-opening experience to see that not everyone thinks like me or each other.
Thanks, again, for your question. It’s another one that made me think.

LikeDislikeMorning Big Sis, my question is what motivational tips can you offer to someone that feels stuck in a repeat motion of life? Example: Wake up, Shower, Work, Home, Sleep, Rinse and repeat.

LikeDislikeThanks for your question, Bro-Mo.
I’m sure you’ve heard it said that one definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results.
I’d have to say that Nike had it right when they proclaimed, “Just do it!”
If you’re trying to get motivated, you’re already behind the curve. Don’t try. Do!
Do it!
Rip yourself out of your comfort zone and take a risk; create a challenge for yourself. Do it terrified. Do it insecure. Do it without proper financing. Just freakin’ do it!
You have to kick-start yourself and, as Ghandi said, “be the change you want to see in the world.” Bring it closer to home. YOU be the change you want to see in your own life. Make it happen, as El Hajj Malik El Shabazz said, “by any means necessary.” Keep it ethical, legal and moral, of course, but go after it fiercely.
Nothing is going to change in your life until you stop the cycle and do something new.
Do it!
Thanks, again, for your question. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help. I love you!

LikeDislikewhat is your fondest childhood memory? what do you think is the key to happiness (general or yours)? Thanks!
LikeDislikeThanks for your questions.
I don’t have one childhood memory that stands out from the rest. My childhood was great, period.
As for your second question, I’d have to say the key to happiness is realizing happiness isn’t the ultimate goal. I did a short post about this on my Just the Messenger blog. I that post, I say the following:
Thanks, again, for your questions, and I appreciate your diligent participation on my blog. I see that you usually answer the question every day. I appreciate that.

LikeDislikeDoes Mama & Daddy Fields know about your myqotd website? Does your family know how hard you have worked on the site and what do they think of it if they do know? Do they answer the questions and are you surprised by their responses. I know that was a mouthful but I talk a mile a minute lol
Was this answer helpful?
LikeDislikeYou’re fine. I talk about three miles a minute, truth be told.
Yes, my parents know about the blog, and my mother has answered questions in the past. My daddy, however, prefers reading my social media articles on Examiner.com. I was like, “Daddy! I’ve had this other site forever, and you don’t even go there?!?!” I think it’s too much for him.
The questions that my mother has answered, her responses didn’t surprise me. I was just happy she actually took the time to participate. I love that woman!
Thanks for your question, Brat.

LikeDislikeYou look great with short hair! I’m not brave enough for that. How long have you been short and natural? Did you do that when you you joined the military. Were you feeling “G.I. Jane.” LOL.
LikeDislikeThanks for your question.
No, I didn’t have the “G.I. Jane” syndrome when I joined the Army. She was a Marine, by the by.
I join the Army in 1999, but I first shaved my head in 1992. I was actually natural about two years before that when I was practicing Islam and my head was covered. No one could see the shoulder-length hair under my wrap, but it wasn’t chemically-processed during those two years. I’d run a pressing comb through it when it got to bushy, but I was done with chemicals by that time.
When I shed Islam, I shed my wrap and all my hair. All three were liberating experiences for me.
I’ve never been into hair, which is why I didn’t mind covering my head when I became Muslim. Some women who convert truly have heartache and stress over this.
When I left that faith, the natural thing for me to do was to shave off my hair. I can’t really say why it was the natural thing, but it felt right in my spirit. I’ve never regretted that decision since I made it.
I did let it grow out once, and it was back down to my shoulders, but that lasted all of six months. I went to the barber and had that taken care of with the quickness.
It was funny, because dude didn’t want to cut off all my hair until I showed him my license letting him know I knew what I was asking. He said, and I’m paraphrasing, “Whew. OK. I mean, I have women come in here thinking they’re going to leave looking like Nia or Halle, and then they want to sue me when they end up looking like a man in drag.”
Thanks for your question.

LikeDislikeYou get tons of traffic on your blog. Why don’t you have ads so you can make a little money?
LikeDislikeThanks for your question.
I’ve been to your site many times, so I hope my response doesn’t offend you in any way. It’s definitely not my intent, because I like your site the way you have laid it out.
Having said that, let me answer your question. I actually do have advertisements on my blog, but they live under the Support tab for a very specific reason.
I absolutely abhor trying to read a post and having to weave through a maze of ads! Ewe. That is truly, truly annoying to me, and I just really don’t think it’s necessary, even if you do have ads on your site. I like how your ads are NOT in the middle of content. When I decided to include ads on my blog, I made a commitment NOT to have them all over the place. That is why they live under the Support tab.
If a person wants to support the My Question of the Day blog by clicking through some of my ads, they will have to make a purposeful, deliberate decision to do so. I don’t want to be tricked into clicking something I think is content only to find myself on an advertisement page, and I refuse to do that to others. I have a “truth in clicking” policy over here.
I’d love to make a bit of chump change to offset the cost of the prizes and giveaways I sponsor, but I won’t do it in a sneaky way. That’s not my style.
Thanks, again, for your question and for all your support of and for the My Question of the Day blog. I value you very much!

LikeDislikeWhere do you get the money for drawings and gift cards?
And how do you make a living?
What keeps you so positive about life and people?
LikeDislikeThanks for your questions.
I actually buy my prizes from my daytime paycheck. The money comes from my own pocket. The prizes are my way of saying “thank you” to those of you who take the time to add value and content to my blog.
Vicky asked the same question about how I make a living. You can see my response to that question here.
I stay positive about life and people by remembering that I’m blessed and highly favorable but that the sun also shines on those who don’t know they’re blessed and highly favored, too.
The scripture for my life is Romans 8:28, and my personal motto is “It’s not always easy, but it’s usually simple.” I created that quote for myself several years ago when I was going through a rough patch. I have found that it applies to any and every situation I can think of or imagine.
I love to extend hands of love, friendship and assistance, but another very effective way I stay positive about life and people is to mind my own business.
I once heard a pastor say, and I’m paraphrasing, “God gave you too much when He let you have yourself and freewill. Focus on you and stay out of other people’s business, unless they ask for your assistance.” That so rung in my spirit. I make a point to remember it.
Thanks, again, for your questions. I also appreciate all your support of and for the My Question of the Day blog. You help make it a success.

LikeDislikeThanks for answering my question. And since no one else wants to know anything, here’s another question from me: Where and what do you teach?
LikeDislikeYou’re most welcome.
During the day, I do computer applications training for EEI Business Communications. We are headquartered in Columbia, MD, and we have training facilities in Alexandria, VA, Silver Spring, MD, Hunt Valley, MD, and Herndon, VA, along with the classes we teach at the headquarters building.
As you know, the information technology field is huge, and it’s easy to get all stretched out trying to master everything. I decided several years ago to concentrate on the internet and the web, so I train adults in web design/development and social media.
During the evenings I design websites and blogs under my Hyper-linx brand, and I also do a little training through my own company, Higher Dimensions Computer Training Solutions. Don’t worry. I got clearance from my Vice President to do my side training, so I wouldn’t get accused of a conflict of interest. My training company is business-to-consumer. EEI’s training company is business-to-business. I deal directly with individuals. EEI deals with companies that send individuals to us for training.
I love sharing my knowledge.
Thanks for your question. Anything else you want to know?

LikeDislikeOkay, I just found your blog a while back (Not even sure how I found it) and I jumped right in answering your questions without being invited (oops!!) Do you ask the questions for any particular reason? A study perhaps? How do you come up with them?
LikeDislikeThanks for your questions.
Let me start by saying that you did exactly the right thing by just jumping in and getting started.
I was so happy to see you, and I definitely appreciate your input. The invitation was extended when the blog went live, so there are no “OOPes” on that.
No, I don’t ask the questions for any particular reason or study or anything like that. I actually got the idea from another Twitter user, @jubilance1922. I started out answering her questions of the day, and I actually asked her permission to do a question of the day of my own. At that time, many of her questions were centered around male/female relationships, and I wanted to branch out a bit. Ms. Jubi graciously consented, and then another Twitter user, @tclarkusa, suggested that I post the answers to the questions on a blog. That’s because I started out with questions that were more poll-like. My first two questions were “Who’s more of a challenge, a momma’s boy or a daddy’s girl?” and “Toilet paper, over or under?” Both are still open for comments, by the by.
People wanted to know the final tallies, so that’s how the My Question of the Day blog was borne. If you look at the bottom of different categories on the blog, you’ll see that other folks have suggested this or that, and I’ve incorporated as many of their suggestions as I could over the life of the blog. For example, the Movie Trailers and The Ultimatums were added after being suggested by readers. I’m grateful to them.
Many of the questions I just pull out of the air, seriously. I’m always thinking about something, and questions come to me. Several are inspired by conversations I’ll have with others. A person will say something, and I’ll go, “Something you said made me think of a good question for my blog.” Other questions come from current events in the news. Of course, several of those who participate on the blog will send me questions to ask, and I always, always, always appreciate those. Hm. Let me see if that’s it… Duh! And, some of the questions are based on my own real-life experiences.
Thanks so much for “jumping right in” and adding content and value to my blog, and thanks, again, for your questions. I love you, sis!

LikeDislikeMy question is why would anyone want to know anything about you? Who are you that I would even ask a question about you?
LikeDislikeThanks for your questions.
Let me address your first question by saying this: today’s question is a chance for anyone who’s been reading this blog for the past 11 months to learn more about me, the creator of the blog. My purpose for asking today’s question isn’t to assert that people want to know more about me. It is to extend the opportunity for people to get to know more about me.
As for your second question, my answer is this: it is up to you to decide if I’m worth getting to know more about. I don’t have any preconceived ideas about my own importance in the grand scheme of it all. The question is an invitation, not a demand, and you can choose to ignore it; no worries.
I appreciate you taking the time to contribute to my blog. Be well.

LikeDislikeHow do you know Star Jones?
LikeDislikeHi, Vicky. Thanks for your question.
I met Ms. Jones through Twitter, actually.
I’ve had the opportunity to meet her in person, and she’s very down-to-earth, intelligent and generous almost to a fault.
She’s star-quality without the star-vanity. From my experience with her, I took away a sense that she genuinely has a heart for all things good and positive.
Her spirituality isn’t contrived. She definitely practices what she “preaches” in her Morning Meditations. I love her very much.
