My Question of the Day for 16 April 2010 – UPDATED
My Question of the Day: Nothing should taste better than being healthy feels. Imagine you’ve been plugging away at a new diet and exercise plan. You’ve been working your programs for the last three months, and you can see light at the end of the long tunnel. You’re within 10 pounds of meeting your weight-loss goal, and you’ve totally relearn how to eat, keeping portion control in mind and limiting, not banishing, junk food. One day at work, you get an email from the company president, saying that s/he wants to take the entire office out to dinner to show his/her appreciation for all your hard work and dedication. S/he gives the place and time for the dinner, and it is a restaurant that you have completely avoided since starting your new health regimen, because this restaurant prepares food in a way that totally, 100% goes against your diet plan. What do you do?
My 2 Cents: If I have a choice, I wouldn’t go. If I have no choice, if it’s mandatory, I won’t eat. If I’ve avoided that particular restaurant for the specific reason that their menu doesn’t fit in my diet plan, I’m not going to try to force it.
I’d thank my boss for his/her generous offer, but I wouldn’t compromise my goal just to get a free meal, and I’d let him/her know exactly why I won’t be participating.
My choice is based on knowing my level of discipline (or lack thereof) at this point and time, and I’m not at a point where I’d just get back on my plan the next day. I could be wrong after I’ve actually had three months to revise my eating habits and solidify my workout program, but answering with today’s mind, I wouldn’t go.

Dinner with the boss is an investment in your future. Also, this is as good a time as any to test yourself because, if you can’t exercise self-control now, you will probably fall off the wagon at some point in the future anyway. At least this time you would be doing it for a good reason.
I would go and order the healthiest thing they have. Either that or use it as my cheat day. (you know you should have one, right? Helps you stay on point?)

LikeDislikei would go, because bosses need to absolutley do more of these appreciation meals/ outings with their staff. you can always order what is healthiest, and still portion control by boxing half away as soon as you get your plate. You can always stay away from soda by drinking water. you can even order a kids meal (those don’t happen to be the healthiest choices either). you can even plan ahead and make that your splurge day.

LikeDislikeEverybody knows how rare and beautiful it is for bosses to take out ALL STAFF, so I’d go and try for the healthiest dish.
Grilled veggies, unsweetened iced tea, salad with dressing on the side (then pick out the croutons) – or ask for half of the dish to be wrapped before it is brought to the table.
I usually order first or last so the server can make notes if necessary, and ask with a smile.

LikeDislikeThis always happen when I decide to start a detox or diet… Well, I am one of those who does not care about manners when it comes to my plans… I often ordered tea an a fruit salad or green plain salad. Most restaurants have that…When it comes to health, there is no compromise.

LikeDislikeI’m already there… I would go and get back on the regimen. Why let that opportunity pass by. If the food was clearly detrimental to my health. I would pass on the offer and keep it moving the the weight-loss program.

LikeDislikeDefinitely go! It’s a nice gesture and only one meal. There are always healthy options and small portions.

LikeDislikeI go and order the healthiest option off the menu. Work is important (not more important than health) but if I’ve anything to show over the last 10 months it’s my ability to control what goes in my mouth and to stay disciplined with exercise and nutritious meals!

LikeDislikeNo worries. Most restaurants try to accommodate special dietary needs. I can always call and see if this particular restaurant can accommodate my request. If not, there’s sure to be something on the menu for dieters like me or I can always eat 1/2 and save 1/2. No worries!

LikeDislikeI go. It’s only one night and I can just pick whatever the healthiest thing on the menu is. Or I can request that they not fry, that they leave off sauce, etc. Diet should never get in the way of life.
