My Question of the Day for 26 March 2010 – UPDATED
My Question of the Day: In a society obsessed with youthfulness, have you ever found it to be a disadvantage to look younger/older than your actual age?
My 2 Cents: According to others, I look very young for my age. As a 41-year-old woman, I’ve been told, just recently as a matter of fact, which is what prompted the question, that I look about 25 or 26, if that old. That’s a shock, because I’m overweight, and extra weight usually makes you look older. I can’t imagine how old people are going to think I am when I lose these extra pounds—and I’m losing these extra pounds. 
I can’t say it’s been a disadvantage to look younger than my actual age, but it has been a nuisance at times. As a trainer, training other adults, some of my students look at me like, “You can’t possibly know what you’re talking about. You’re a baby.” I always make it a point, in my introduction, to make it clear how much age I do have. Only twice have I had students refuse to believe me until I showed them (both were men) my driver’s license.
I’m thankful for what God gave me in every area of my life; even in looking younger than my age. It’s all a blessing to me.

I look a bit younger than my age and don't mind. except when they card me when going to play the lotto because then I have to whip it out my wallet and my card out of my wallet – just me being lazy lol

LikeDislikeWhen I was young ( I wanted to run with the older crowd…yeah I thought I was 'all that'!) so I didn't like looking young. After pushing out the little ones, I liked the fact that I looked young and was 27-28 for quite a few years. NOW…I still look younger than what I am but it's not so good 'cuz according to my girls I look like one of those older women who try to look like they're young. Oh my heart!

LikeDislikeIn my case, younger looking is big a disadvantage because I have been refused access to Atlantic City casinos more than once, I can't buy any alcoholic beverage without having to justify my age and the worst is at night clubs! It an really annoying at times! I am often taken seriously!

LikeDislikeI had to let that go after a few years of claiming to be 27. I am often told I look younger than I actually am, which is nice. But my hairline has started to reveal my truth. I could live life under a hat (like Ne-yo) or bandana (like Bret Michaels), but I have a real job and they wouldn't allow that. I also considered a wig, but I don't know how you ladies spend all day under those thick, hot, heavy hairpieces.
Yup, it's easier just accepting I look how I look.

LikeDislikeWhen I was younger, it was hell being seen as much younger than I actually was. But I always consoled myself with the fact that it would come in handy one day. That day has come! haha

LikeDislikePeople have always said that I don't look my age. Its more of an advantage to me now that I'm in my mid-30's. Now I need to work on feeling younger.
