My Question of the Day: When you are at home, you’re in the habit of leaving loose bills and change on a small table near the door where you put your mail. It’s never more than a few dollars and a few coins, and you live alone. One day a friend comes by to visit. You all decide to go out shopping, and you all are getting ready to leave the house. As you approach the door, you realize you’ve forgotten your cellphone in your bedroom, and you tell your friend you’ll be right back and to wait by the front door. You get your phone and head back. As you’re approaching your friend from the bedroom, you see him/her scoop up the bills and change and put them in his/her pocket. What do you do?

My 2 Cents: I’d ask my “friend” why he/she was taking my money. It wouldn’t matter if it is a few dollars or a few hundred dollars, theft is theft, and it’s not OK to take anything from my home that I haven’t given you.

I’d ask him/her to leave, and he/she would not be welcomed in my home anymore. I can’t say I would end the association, but we’d meet outside my house or join up at a place on which we both agree.

What I won’t be doing is changing how I live in my home. If it’s my habit to leave a few bills and change on my mail table, I’m not going to change that. If people who visit me can’t respect my property, then they won’t be coming back for another visit. That’s point blank and period.

Take a few moments to check out the tweets from Twitter on this subject:

Jason Stover TankaBar_JasonD I would guess they needed it more then I did. I would confront them 1 on1 and ask if they need any help. not 2 humiliate em.

Michael Falkner womprat99  Ask if they need some monetary help. If not, why they needed to scoop up my money. Oh, and re-evaluate leaving money in that location.

Joshua Gibson JoshDamage I would probably say something sarcastic like “you’re welcome” its only a few bucks. However I now watch this person closely
