My Question of the Day for 22 February 2010 – UPDATED
My Question of the Day: You’re at a comedy club or watching a comedy special on television. Is/are there any subject(s) about which a comedian would joke that would cause you to walk out of the club or turn the channel in anger, disappointment or disgust?
My 2 Cents: If jokes are mean or malicious toward any group of people or any sensitive issues with which people/society have to deal, I’d walk out of a comedy club or change the television channel.
I don’t want any kind of negativity or hate in my spirit, so I wouldn’t sit through anything like that.

tclarkusa I’ve left a comedy club ONCE he wasn’t funny, he called me out on it, I ignored him & kept it moving. I was happy…so was he. If it were tv, I’d just change the channel.
JoshDamage this is a good question…racial jokes are often unfunny. I may not walk out but I’d certainly feel turned off

LikeDislikeI doubt anything would make me walk out of a live show. If something offended me, I just wouldn't laugh/clap. But when it comes to television, I'm a fiend with the remote! There's a difference between funny and mean and I don't have time to waste on garbage. I don't get offended easily, so if I actually get to that point (too much racial or homophobic ranting, for example), I'd definitely change the channel.

LikeDislikeI try to take all comedy with a grain of salt. There have been a few times where I was watching a comedian and they said something that made me uncomfortable, but I've never been offended. I suppose if someone went off on a rant peppered with racial slurs or homophobic comments, I probably would walk out because then it ceases to be funny and becomes offending.

LikeDislikeNope, comedy is comedy and if I can't take a joke told by someone else, I need not try to watch the show to begin with. Not everyone is going to think like I think, and if I feel that I should be allowed to say, think, feel what I want then I should not be trying to begrude anyone else the privilege. If it's not funny to me, I just won't laugh. (RE: Vicky, I don't watch/listen to Chris Rock for that sole purpose.)

LikeDislikeThe only thing that would disgust me would be using a lot of derogatory racial terms. I'm pretty open when it comes to comedy.
