My Question of the Day for 10 February 2010 – UPDATED
My Question of the Day: There are no bad people; just good people in bad situations. Agree or Disagree?
My 2 Cents: When we’re children, it’s possible for us to be good people in bad situations; living in extreme poverty, tolerating abusive parents, surviving horrible foster homes, dodging bullets and drug dealers, etc.
When we become adults, we can allow the bad situations of our childhood to turn us into people who do very bad things.

I think some people are born without emotion. So they are able to do more things that most people percieve as not good. I believe there are evil people and non evil people. Good and bad are subjective in my opinion. I think it comes down to the decisions. Decisions can be good or bad, people are to complex to be described by good or bad.

LikeDislikeIt's unfortunate that I have to disagree but I firmly believe that bad people do exist. I understand that sometimesterrible situations force good people to do bad things but bad people who love inducing pain in others and causing malice exist in my opinion. The news is evidence enough of this and the constant murders and mistreatment of children around the world are daily reminders.

LikeDislikeOf course there are bad people. There is evil in the world – there is an anti-God force in this world. Additionally, there are men, energized by the devil & there are demons. Being placed in a bad situation does not change your morals, values, etc.

LikeDislikeDisagree AND agree. Let me explain. Disagree. There are bad people. We know they're there. Don't be fooled, evil still exists. I also agree that yes sometimes good people can find themselves in some rather bad situations, stuff happens.

LikeDislikeI agree. People are good until put in a bad situation, whether it's created by internal or external forces, and they react in fear which is always negative. A person's fears are influenced by what they have learned as they've grown up and been influenced by family, community, culture etc. I think who we consider 'bad people' with no redeeming value, are those with undiagnosed/untreated mental illness.

LikeDislikeToo often, people allow others to ignore their responsibility for their actions. Some people are good people in bad situations, but some people are just bad. For instance, a good person might be horribly abused as a child and then, grow up to live a normal life. However, a bad person might be horribly abused as a child and then, grow up to be a mass murderer. The difference: PERSONAL CHOICE. Some people are just evil–are the psychological term for evil: sociopaths. While granted, sociopaths are sometimes, albeit rarely, raised–most of the time, they are born that way.

LikeDislikeThere are very few people who only ever do bad things. Most people are complex, often engaged in contradictory and conflicting attitudes and/or patterns of behaviour. There are people out there whose actions generally only ever result in misery and pain for others – these people are anti-social personality disorders. Are they bad people? In the sense that it's often quite “bad” to have someone like this in your life then sure.
Do we write them off as people without the capacity of contributing anything positive to society? I dunno. Seems harsh to judge someone only by their very worst actions. Even the most despicable violent offender might have something to teach us all.

LikeDislikeI read a theory a while ago based on the philosophy that your image is a product created by the opinions of the people around you (example: if everybody says your not cool, then how can you be?) With that in mind then yes, there are “good” and “bad” people, that being determined by majority consensus, but as far as personal belief I think everything that exists, does so within a unavoidable balance and good/bad are just labels for different parts of that spectrum, hot is no better than cold, left is no more correct than right, until it's subject to your perspectives and judgments — if that makes any sense lol – jay.

LikeDislikeSadly, because there is evil in the world I believe there are people greatly influenced by that evil. Some people, therefore, are in fact bad because of the evil in their hearts.
