The Harder Question: At this point in American History, should we get rid of heritage months (e.g., Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Native American Heritage Month, etc.)?

We still need these because we still don’t get any representation or respect throughout the rest of the year. Even with a black president, some people need to be reminded that there is a diverse group of cultures living in this country.

LikeDislikeI appreciate ALL the contributions of Americans that make our country and hate that a month is set aside to honor that which separate us. Negro History Month (yes, that’s the original name) set a precedent by reminding others of the achievements of a culture, but perhaps the time has come to recognize our achievements as a nation, a coat of many colors if you will.

LikeDislikeI think we should have a “Multicultural Month” so all different backgrounds can learn to appreciate each other.
Other suggestions, switch African-American Month away from February, make Hispanic Heritage Month fall within 1 month instead of overflowing from September 15 to October 15, gee I didn’t even realize we had Native American Heritage Month. But I never get phone calls from “them” so let’s see.
