The Question: Should driver’s licenses be rescinded (taken away) at a certain age?
My 2 Cents: I agree with what many of you said: Driver’s licenses should NOT be rescinded automatically at a certain age, but there should be retesting (written and driven) every so many years after a person reaches a certain age.
A person’s autonomy shouldn’t be snatched away from him/her just because s/he reaches a certain age. In the interest of public safety, however, retesting/requalification could save lives.

walkerdl No, but tests should be required every 2 years after age 70 or 75
PROTECTED TWEETER Driver licenses should be taken away when vision is not good or any other condition that prevent safe driving, no specific age.
OneChele Yes. My Mom is 77 and still driving. We only let her drive during the day, between rush hours when it’s dry, 10 miles or less.
sunshine625 Yes!!!
PROTECTED TWEETER I think at a certain age drivers should be re-tested. If they can’t pass a practical (actual driving test) then YES!
PROTECTED TWEETER Well, insurance risk changes as one ages, so increasing the age would follow…
rishaholmes No,not unless Dementia/Blind
Dominicana84 no. i know elers in their 70s+ who are great drivers and need to drive to do daily activities…it shouldnt go by age, more like their disablities. every person isn’t the same.
PROTECTED TWEETER at certain age, driving test should become annual?
sallyaevans No. I think it should be based on ability.
ankomaguy yes, when you are too old.
fucalladat Oh yes!!
Hadji4ever Ooh! Don’t start nothing now. Lol. Yes! An elderly couple jumped the curb and slammed into the back of my cousin’s Hummer.
QTKrisAriel If they cant pass a yearly driving exam
EvrythngNailz drivrs lic should be retained based on regulated criteria esp vision tests. Maybe those tests shuld be req’d sooner after 65
Toni_Thomas I don’t they should be taken away w/o retesting.
jigsawverbiage No. They should be taken away after certain number of infractions or if you just plain can’t see.
treschic67 If the driver is of Sound Mind & passes the Drivers exam, it should NOT be taken away..
DerekIsNormal Absolutely not! To me that’s no different from rescinding a license because of race or sexual preference inequality.
Write_Of_Fusion No, just re-test every year-
thewilliecolon YES 70+ new test every 5yr
mrsxavib I think elderly drivers should be retested yearly to retain their licenses. I’ve had several elderly drivers almost kill me.
blacknthick yes but its when they can’t see and forget where they going and forget the rulesof driving and forget how fast they need to go
chela816 No, but there should be more frequent testing after a certain age. Maybe even annually.
NajlaT YES older ppl 4get the driving laws or something.. Turn left frm the right lane, and stop at yellow lights! Lol
Quintessence_T yes—they should be required to re-take the test at age 70
Pettra88 Yesssssssss…. YES!!!
PROTECTED TWEETER Absolutely! 85!
sistagp no, but retests should be done every ? years
mayqueen79 I don’t believe that they should arbitrarily be taken away, but they should have to retake the test every year after age 60.
NightShade10 No, but I think competancy to drive (vision and road test) should be tested every 3 years under 40 and every 2 years afterward
BLKMGK No, but senior citizens should have to take a driving test more frequently
bootyfulgirl73 Yes. There’s already too many bad drivers on the road. Older people don’t have the reflexes to continue driving safely.
Teaguem2005 I know cause my daddy is 69 and he needs to take ParaTransit when we can’t take him somewhere but he won’t wait!
Teaguem2005 Drivers 65 and older should have to prove their ability to retain their license annually. Need to show vision exam as well
atane Only if the person lacks cognitive skills. My Dad is in his 70s, but is a great driver. Very alert.
JoshDamage No. I believe each case should be reviewed individually, and a judgment be made according to the circumstances.
