My Question of the Day: Should student-athletes be required to GO TO and FINISH college before they’re allowed to turn pro?

Ideally, yes. Actually, no. Student athletics is BIG business and although a lot of scholarships are given to student athletes, let’s be honest some are just not college academic material. For those that wish to pursue a college degree I believe every attempt should be made to assist them in their quest, but for those that are just there to play, let ‘em play. Making education a mandatory requirement for someone that barely graduated high school won’t benefit the student athlete and will deprive the school of resources that could be spent on students who actually want an education.

LikeDislikeShould students finish school before turning pro is the question you asked? Some students need to turn pro, and some need to finish school. Education is very important and so is money to live in our United States. Perhaps if we make education contractual for students, should one leave school they may return to finish school during the off seasons of a pro career. Some school take advantage of students ability and when it is used up, that student is disgarded like a old shoe. The contract with every school should read, “degree regardless as to how long it may take.”
