My Question of the Day for 09 November 2009 – RESULTS

The Question: Can you really meet your life-time partner on an online matching site?

My 2 Cents: It’s interesting that there is still a stigma to meeting people through online dating/match sites, even in the day and age of Web 2.0 and social media. We concede that we can do many other things online, but meeting our life partner doesn’t seem to be one of them, according to many people.

It’s obviously not true that you can’t fall in love with someone you’ve met online, because people are doing it everyday. I personally know two couples who met online and married, and they are still happily married as far as I can tell from the outside looking in.

Originally, the wheel made the world smaller, allowing people to travel long distances in a shorter time than walking the entire away. For many years, settlements clung to the coasts of nations because travel by boat was faster than walking and riding a horse. Then we took the concept of the wheel to another level and locomotion was invented, allowing settlements to move further inland and spread out as goods and people could be moved from coast to coast over the railways. After trains, there were trolleys that moved people from place to place and then came the personal vehicle: the car. After cars, there were planes that could take you from one continent to another within the span of 24 hours, and the world continued to get smaller and smaller. Check out America on the Move for some interesting historical facts.

Now there’s the information superhighway and the world has gotten that much more tiny.

Although online dating/match sites aren’t for everyone, I would say you can meet your life-time partner on an online matching site.

PROTECTED TWEETER Yes and no. Yes if you pay the mega money. No if you DIY

Tomi Clarktclarkusa Perhaps, but some things are better the old fashioned way. (SMILE)

PROTECTED TWEETER Yes you can..I did. 8yrs together :) but it actually was on [a social networking site] not a matching site :)

Risha Holmesrishaholmes It think it is possible!

PROTECTED TWEETER ..i think its possible for some people

John HindsJohn_Hinds That’s an intriguing question. It’s possible. I have been slow to embrace online dating. I prefer meeting women in person 1st.

K. L. Simpsonlafreya1 My sister did they are getting married in August

M. Chaneyagonyofvictory my brother-in-law stalked my wife’s sister on FB until she went out w/ him. During the wedding toast he was clowned lol

Rob Grahamrobbytalk All is possible!

PROTECTED TWEETER I’ve heard about it happening but I’d be too scared. It’s rough out here for us single folk!

The PamojasThePamojas possibilities are endless.

Black Positive Imageblackposimage Yes indeed

Tracey treschic67 Yes. I believe you can

PROTECTED TWEETER you can meet them online, but it cant just stop there. turn it into real life, interact in person and you can find ‘the one’

xsashagirlxsashagirl No matter what the forum, true love can overcome any medium. Personally, I doubt that true love can be found online.

Josephine SevenJosephine_Seven my brother did. It may not always be successful but I think it works for some.

Renee Bellcoffeesassy I don’t believe so but I’m old school.

Missyblacknthick think I can me and huuby first meet online yrs ago then remeet so I will say [bleep] ya

PROTECTED TWEETER if a man can survive n the belly of a whale than i can meet my soul mate on [an online dating site] ;-)

Daniel Walkerwalkerdl Good ?. I met my wife thru frat…I think so

VickyBLKMGK Sure, dating sites can probably match you up with someone with similar character qualities.

Gloria AntonNightShade10 I’m not sure, online dating has been maybe bit over 10 years-hardly a life time. People have “paired” up lets see if it lasts!

ltmd20737 YES

PROTECTED TWEETER Maybe…Seems like online dating is the “it” thing, seems foolish to me, but it works for others

Dathan Dante SanchezChiaGuevara YES! I worked for a doctor (oncologist) whom I was told divorced his wife (she was a piece of work) and met his love thru that!

Darryl MimsWrite_Of_Fusion I’ve always been skeptical of that. Being matched up, to me, takes away from a true chance of meeting a real soulmate/love.

Shameka JacksonDknlvlydiva ... Can meet anywhere

queenestherqueenesther YES! I know people who have. Go where ever God leads you, I say.

PROTECTED TWEETER it may be possible for some people, but definitely not for me…i like hanging out in PERSON w/my love interest lol

PROTECTED TWEETER No I really dont think so

Linda Bilyeusunshine625 Yes.

Atane Ofiajaatane Sure, why not? I know several people that met each other online. I’ve also dated people I met online.

MusingMomMusingMom if ppl can meet their life time partner in a bar, in a park or in a church why not online?

Please note that I will be picking winners for the months in 2011 that have not been done yet. I've gotten behind, but I'm a woman of my word. Beginning, 01 January 2012, there will only be one winner per month, and that one winner will receive a $30 Amazon gift card. For the months in 2011 that still need winners, there will still be two, $20 gift card winners. The change will take effect starting 01 January 2012. See details.
