My Question of the Day: Are you really self-employed if you’re not making enough money to handle ALL your responsibilities?

Interesting question. Akin to the half empty v half full glass of water. If you aren’t gaming the system by collecting unemployment while working off the books then, yes, I’d still consider anyone else in that position as self employed. I mean would you call a person working a regular job, collecting a regular paycheck with taxes withheld unemployed if they can’t handle ALL their responsibilities?
I would just say both were ‘struggling’, or ‘trying to stay afloat’
