As a concept, there’s nothing wrong with PDA .If done within taste, it can be a very powerful and influential statement. I think displaying sexual lust in public is what grind my gears. Get a room!

LikeDislikeI think this issue is definitely a cultural one. And it’s about what’s appropriate, what people are accustomed to…and what’s just plain tacky! My Mom, who is a old-south Gentle-lady has her perceptions of what’s appropriate in public and would not anything beyond holding hands. I personally think hugging and a kiss is not out of line. (Not talking deep mouth kissing here; just a peck of affection)
I grew up in the deep south, during the height of the civil rights movement. I can still remember the reactions to PDA from inter-racial couples. It was not something folks were used to seeing, so they deemed it wrong. In some places, it was even illegal. (Historic side note: I see that same level of intensity these days with the recent incidents involving PDA of same-sex couples. Examples: A couple was arrested in Salt Lake City and three couple have been evicted from restaurants for what was originally called “inappropriate PDA, but has since been shown to be only the reaction of a few who were uncomfortable with “that kind” of display. As a PR professional, I’ve followed these stories for the serious PR damage that was done by these establishments.)
I recently went to a major production at one of our local theaters and there was a young couple waiting in the lobby for the doors to open, macking out on one of the benches. I was concerned that at any minute, clothes would begin to come off. It was OVER THE TOP. Embarrassing for all who saw and totally inappropriate. But no one on the theater staff said anything to stop the display. (Query: Wonder what would that have happened if the couple were same-sex?)

LikeDislikeNot at all. I welcome innocent, spontaneous PDA. But, in the same instance, some people tend to go overboard with it. That I do not like.
