My Question of the Day: Does a woman keeping her maiden name spell doom for a marriage, even if her husband is fine with it?

No, for a married woman to take her husband’s surname is simply tradition. While there are some benefits to it, there appears to be no critical necessity for it. Elizabeth Taylor and Diana Ross didn’t seem to suffer for not changing their names. And, I haven’t heard any reports of less well-known wives suffering harm from keeping their surnames after marrying.
May you have Peace!

LikeDislikeI have been married for 31 years and I kept my mainden name. Kennedy-Brown. I am the last remaining Kennedy in my family and I did not have children so I retained the name for that reason. The Kennedy name is a great African American Irish name (smile).
Aftter 31 years of marriage my husband is fine with me keeping my maiden name and it has not been the demise of my marriage.
