My Question of the Day: How did growing up WITH or WITHOUT pets affect your attitude toward pet ownership as an adult?

I enjoy pets, but I’m not the type of person who treats them like a human, by that I meant, they can’t sleep in my bed, lounge on my furniture, kiss me on the mouth.
I will make sure they get proper exercise, eat on schedule, proper maintenance and play but I pretty much draw the line there. I’ll never abuse an animal intentionally or not (by not, that means getting one and never spending time with them).
